I am surfing the web today at work because its sooooooo dead. Yesterday wasn’t so bad, it was kinda busy, so I was looking forward to today hoping that it would be like yesterday. I like when its busy, it make the day go by so much faster.
While surfing I went to the Orlando Science Center’s website and I found out that the controversial exhibit Our Body: The Universe Within is still at the science center until July of 07. Something they have on the website is a PDF that explains the exhibit and it has some fun facts that I thought id share with you…
- MUSCULOSKELETAL SYSTEM
Over half of the bones in your body are located in your hands and feet.
The only jointless bone in the human body is the hyoid bone in the throat
At birth, humans have 300 bones. As a baby grows, some of the smaller bones fuse together until there are only 290. - CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM – THE HEAD
There are an estimated 1 billion neurons in the human brain
The cornea, the outermost layer of the eye, is the only living tissue in the human body without blood vessels. It receives nutrients from tears and from the aqueous humor.
Newborns can only see approximately as far as their nose - NERVOUS SYSTEMÂ
The peripheral nerves connect the central nervous system with the sense organs, i.e. the organs for vision, hearing, smell, taste and perceptional touch, and other muscles and glands. - DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
The liver is the largest gland and the second largest organ in the human body.
The entire digestive process takes approximately 72 hours. - RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
You lose about 1/2 liter of water a day through breathing
The surface area of the lungs is about the same size as a tennis court - CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM
The adult human body contains 5-6 quarts of blood, while an infant has about 1 quart of blood
Capillaries are so small that red blood cells can only travel through them in single file.
The human heart beats about 40 million times a year.
The aorta is the largest artery in the human body? Its diameter is about the same as a garden hose.
The heart circulates the body’s blood more than 1,000 times a day.
Pretty Interesting stuff huh?
